MONTHLY SPOTLIGHT
DECEMBER, 2024
A YEAR IN REFLECTION

Each month, we shine a spotlight on a member of our community – someone who embodies women’s empowerment and leadership, driving meaningful change. However, as we close another remarkable year, we shift the spotlight to collectively honour all the incredible women who have been part of Almas Libres’ journey.
In a time when challenges to equality and justice persist, communities like ours are more essential than ever. We remain steadfast in our purpose, dedicated to amplifying women’s voices and creating spaces where resilience, courage, and progress can flourish. Thank you for being part of this inspiring mission.
Our Impact: Big Wins, Bold Moves, and Some Serious Fun
Sports and Technology: This year, Almas Libres delivered 176 programmes, empowering 2,500+ women and girls. From leadership skills to life-changing connections, we turned opportunities into action.
Conversations for the Curious: Imagine a room filled with trailblazing women leaders, meaningful conversations, and just the right amount of sass. That’s Conversations for the Curious! With partners like Soho House, Sir Victor Hotel, and Juno House, we brought together over 500 women leaders to spark meaningful change, one conversation at a time.
Workshops: We hosted four game-changing workshops covering workplace bias, imposter syndrome, and public speaking. Over 90 women walked away with practical tools, fresh confidence, and maybe a few mic drops.
This year, we couldn’t help but ask the big question: Why does a community like Almas Libres matter so much in today’s world? So, we turned to the pros – our amazing team of coaches and women leaders – for the inside scoop. Their responses? We couldn’t Uplifting, inspiring, and packed with heart. We couldn’t include them all but here’s a sneak peek at what some of them had to say:
Carolina Marin, Football Coach – Almas Libres is so important for creating opportunities where girls can enjoy sports, regardless of their skill level, feel accomplished doing what they love, and break the stereotype that football or other sports are just for boys. Almas Libres fosters inclusivity and empowerment for girls in sports, and that’s exactly why I joined as a coach- to offer a meaningful way to inspire and empower girls to pursue their love for the sport in an encouraging and inclusive environment.
Communities, like Almas Libres are crucial. A community implies that the people who make it up share the same typology of situations they face and are therefore a source of information, resources and support. They are also crucial for women’s empowerment, as they provide a safe space. The same as for personal growth, skills development and networking. And I believe that is the function of Almas Libres – Laura Ines Fernandez, Speaker
Maria Segui, Basketball Coach – Almas Libres is important because it brings women together and challenges the traditional male dominance in sports. Through the programmes we offer at Almas Libres, we raise awareness and promote inclusivity, contributing to the empowerment and visibility of women.
Almas Libres is a game-changer because it shines a spotlight on women in spaces like sports, culture, and technology – areas where men have historically taken the stage. By leveling the playing field, we’re not just breaking barriers; we’re building role models, sparking growth, and paving the way for the next generation of women leaders to take the world by storm. It’s all about turning challenges into stepping stones! – Jennifer Pedro, Speaker
Almas Libres matters because it’s not just a community – it’s a movement and a space where women’s voices are amplified. In a world where inequality and injustice still dictates too many stories, Almas Libres rewrites the narrative. It creates opportunities, builds confidence, and empowers women to break through barriers, become role models, and lead fearlessly. It’s about showing every girl out there that she belongs in every room, every field, and every conversation – and that together, we’re unstoppable – Laura Jones, Founder Almas Libres.
Clara Verdaguer, Basketball Coach – A community like Almas Libres offers us the opportunity to support one another, learn from each other’s stories and achievements, and work together to find solutions to the challenges we face. It’s a safe space where we can reflect, draw inspiration, and, most importantly, strengthen our confidence. Building networks like Almas Libres connects us and transforms us. It helps us realise that we are not alone and that, together, we can overcome barriers, create new opportunities, and pave the way for those who will come after us. In a society that often pushes us to compete, this community reminds us that true strength lies in collaboration and mutual support.
Eva Ferrer Vidal-Barraquer, Speaker – Practicing sports should always be a free act, allowing one to gain health and enjoy it. That is why Almas Libres, a space where thoughts and feelings about being active can be shared, is so necessary in todays world.
Looking Ahead: The new year brings exciting opportunities to grow and connect. We’re launching new programs, expanding our reach, and deepening our impact within the community. As always, we’ll continue to shine a spotlight on our community of women leaders breaking barriers and driving change. Don’t miss out.
